About me

This blog came into existence after my partner surprised me with it as part of my Christmas present in 2009. As you can see it’s taken me a little while to work up the courage to actually start sharing my thoughts, ideas and experiences with the world.

I like to consider myself a healthy person, but it has taken me a while to embrace a healthy lifestyle. I’m not perfect though, I do still mess up sometimes.

I lived on a farm in country Victoria until I was 9 years old, and then relocated to a very small town which pretty much consisted of our house and the Pub next door. The house is on a large double block, and the second block is basically one giant garden.

While I never thought about it at the time, I was very lucky growing up. I had space to roam, fresh veggies from our garden, Mum’s fresh baked bread, our own chickens for eggs and a local farmer who supplied us with raw milk. It’s funny when you’re a kid how you don’t appreciate these little natural wonders.

I often resented the fact that take-away foods, soft drinks and lollies were restricted by my parents, and I’d go crazy and gorge on sugar when I had the opportunity. When I moved to the city I went all out had a 2 year binge on processed, chemical rich foods and sugar. I developed seriously unhealthy habits and when I started to get sick a lot I realised things needed to change.

Eating well would come relatively easily to me, but exercising took a bit longer to catch on. I now appreciate the healthy values which were instilled in me growing up, and I thank my parents for providing me with a very healthy kick-start to life.

I didn’t have a very conventional childhood in terms of education, being home-schooled until I was 11, and then taking on a correspondence course for my secondary schooling. My parents always gave me the option of going to school, but I liked learning in my own way, at my own pace. In my late teens I studied for a BA: Psychology & Psychophysiology for a year and a half, but dropped out when I realised I wasn’t enjoying the course anymore. The anatomy subjects of Psychophysiology were the only part of the course which I really loved.

And that leads me to where I am now.

I am a certified Personal Trainer and healthy food enthusiast. You can currently find me at See Change PT, Fitter Faster Stronger PT and Fernwood.
